Scanning tunneling spectroscopy of superconducting LiFeAs single crystals: evidence for two nodeless energy gaps and coupling to a bosonic mode.
The superconducting compound LiFeAs is studied by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. A gap map of the unreconstructed surface indicates a high degree of homogeneity in this system. Spectra at 2 K show two nodeless superconducting gaps with Δ(1)=5.3±0.1 meV and Δ(2)=2.5±0.2 meV. The gaps close as the temperature is increased to the bulk T(c), indicating that the surface accurately r...
متن کاملPredominantly Superconducting Origin of Large Energy Gaps in Underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8−δ from Tunneling Spectroscopy
New tunneling data are reported in underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8−δ using superconductor-insulator-superconductor break junctions. Energy gaps, ∆, of 51±2, 54±2 and 57±3 meV are observed for three crystals with Tc=77, 74, and 70 K respectively. These energy gaps are nearly three times larger than for overdoped crystals with similar Tc. Detailed examination of tunneling spectra over a wide doping rang...
متن کاملStimulated superconductivity at strong coupling
Stimulating a system with time dependent sources can enhance instabilities, thus increasing the critical temperature at which the system transitions to interesting lowtemperature phases such as superconductivity or superfluidity. After reviewing this phenomenon in non-equilibrium BCS theory (and its marginal fermi liquid generalization) we analyze the effect in holographic superconductors. We e...
متن کاملStrong-coupling Theory of High-temperature Superconductivity
High-temperature superconductivity has transformed the landscape of solid state science, leading to the discovery of new classes of materials, states of matter, and concepts. However, despite being over a quarter of a century since its discovery, there is still no single accepted theory to explain its origin. This book presents one approach, the strong-coupling or bipolaron theory, which propos...
متن کاملObservation of strong-coupling superconductivity and anomalous zero-bias tunneling conductance peak in MgCNi3
Tunneling spectra of the intermetallic perovskite superconductor MgCNi3 were obtained using mechanical and planar junctions prepared on polycrystalline samples. A clear gap feature corresponding to the bulk phase (Tc ≈ 7.6 K) was observed. The superconducting energy gap ∆(0) was found to be approximately 1.5 meV, with 2∆/kBTc ≈ 4.6. Compared with the weak-coupling value of 2∆/kBTc ≈ 3.53, our r...
